Downtown Austin Traffic Warning Signs Set for 2012

At Home in Austin

Austinites know driving through Downtown can get hectic. I-35 and Mopac may stay busy during weekdays, but on the weekend, it's downtown that locals still are avoiding due to traffic congestion. The City of Austin has decided to help drivers avoid the downtown streets that turn into parking lots by installing 13 digital signs on Central Austin roads leading to downtown, warning drivers where congestion is lingering.

The signs warning drivers will say a range of things such as, “use alternate route” or “road closed” and also will display travel times for motorists going through downtown Austin. The goal of the City is the provide motorists with knowledge of current traffic conditions before they get stuck in the congestion. The traffic signs will cost the City of Austin about $1 million, and this money is coming from federal stimulus funds. According to city officials, the electronic display signs will be up and running in the early part of 2012.

For those who have been stuck in downtown traffic before, these electronic signs are a gift from the City of Austin, to help commuters find alternate routes for congested drives. The City of Austin also is working to improve its website so that motorists may be more alerted to traffic conditions before they leave home or work.

Austin Luxury Home REALTOR® Brian Talley has been caught in many downtown traffic jams and is excited to have help avoiding them. If you are looking for a place in Downtown Austin to call home, perform an Austin Home Search and let Brian help you find the right place.
