Cherry Creek was developed in many phases over a course of decades. Homes from every period between the early 1970s and the late 1990s can be found in Cherry Creek. There is no homeowners association in operation there.
Less than twenty minutes from downtown, Cherry Creek has the benefit of being almost equidistant from Interstate 35 to the east and Mopac Expressway to the west, which opens up a lot of options for commuter living in the area. Its nearness to such big thoroughfares also means that residents of Cherry Creek are only twenty minutes from Austin�s downtown life�including great restaurants, bars, and the rich history of the capital city.
In the immediate vicinity of Cherry Creek are three grocery stores: H.E.B., Albertsons, and Randall�s. A number of restaurants are just as close, including: Tres Amigos, the Galaxy Café, Shogun, the Brick Oven, Marie Callenders, and Maudie�s. Bowling alleys, bookstores, movie theaters, coffee shops, live music venues, and neighborhood hangouts are all within reach.
South Austin also has its share of options for enjoying the outdoors. Nearby parks include Longview Park and Garrison Park, which contains sports courts, picnic areas, a community swimming pool, and a trail. Many of the same community amenities are available at other nearby parks like the Dick Nichols District Park to the south and the Cherry Creek Park, which is home primarily to a children�s playground.
Lawns and streets in Cherry Creek are kept neat, and homebuyers can likewise count on having room to move on their own property. Standard lot sizes range from .14 acres to a quarter of an acre; a few home sites are even larger. The market in Cherry Creek is dominated by brick construction, in both one- and two-story floor plans.
Prices in Cherry Creek range from the mid-$100,000s, for a 1970s-built, three bedroom, two bathroom house with 1,400 square feet of living space, to the mid-$200,000s for a 1993-built, four bedroom, three bath house with 2,700 square feet of living space.
The Austin Independent School District serves residents of the Cherry Creek neighborhood. Neighborhood schools are nearby and easily accessible from the Cherry Creek subdivision, including: Cunningham Elementary, Sunset Valley Elementary, Porter Middle School, Covington Middle School, and Crockett High School. Of these schools, all met Texas Education Agency standards based on required 2007 Accountability Ratings. Cunningham Elementary received �Recognized� status. The other schools received �Academically Acceptable� ratings.
*In addition to completion and drop out rates, the Texas Education Agency rates area schools in part based on results from the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills tests. When the percentage of passing students is 65% or above (45% or above in Math and Science) they gain Academically Acceptable status, 70-75% or above Recognized status, and 90% or above, Exemplary status.
