Established in the early 1970s, the neighborhood of Great Hills contains over 1850 homes, covers 6 square miles, boasts the finest in golf, tennis, swimming and social amenities, and retains a population of approximately 11,000 residents. The family-friendly community is minutes away from Home Depot, Whole Foods Market, Costco, HEB Grocery, two movie theater complexes, two nature preserves, dozens of high-end retail stores, and over 30 restaurants.
Prospective buyers encounter a range of styles from modern contemporary to traditional colonial. Most homes range from 2,000 to 3,500 square feet, and are priced from the lower $300s to upwards of $800,000.
Great Hills is located in Northwest Austin (See 78759 homes for sale). The original section of the neighborhood centers around the golf course of Great Hills Country Club. The Arbor at Great Hills and the Reserve at Great Hills are two sections added in the 80s and 90s, and the Dominion at Great Hills broke ground in the late 90s and early 2000s. The neighborhood is bound by U.S. Hwy 183 to the East, North Capital of Texas Highway (aka Loop 360) to the South, Spicewood Springs Road to the West, and Jollyville Road to the North. The commute to downtown Austin is 9 miles and takes approximately 20 minutes.
In Great Hills, residents have coveted access to a multitude of modern amenities and recreational activities, thanks to its beautiful country club.
The Great Hills Country Club offers an 18-hole golf course (designed by Don January and Billy Martindale), currently rated a par 71. Within this course are the greatest changes in elevation of any in Austin, so prepare for a challenging round of golf! The pristine course also features creeks and ponds, which complement a natural habitat for deer and other wildlife.
The attractive clubhouse provides an adult lounge as well as family dining for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If tennis is your game, you can choose from four lighted courts that are open until midnight.
One of the best ways to beat the Texas heat is in the Junior-Olympic-sized swimming pool, which is heated for lap swimmers during the winter months. GHCC is home to one of the best swim teams in the area — and you don’t have to be a member for your child to join the team! The club offers tennis and golf lessons, as well as junior clinics and athletic camps for children.
For residents who wish to become members, the club offers three levels of membership — stockholder, tennis and social. The stockholder level requires an equity purchase in the club and includes all the facilities, including unlimited use of the golf course and driving range. A social membership provides access to the swimming pool and clubhouse. The tennis membership includes use of the swimming pool, clubhouse, and tennis courts.
