Lake Austin offers what some consider the most desirable real estate in Austin. Apache Shores

Located near Lake Travis west of Austin, the Apache Shores neighborhood is nestled amongst the valleys and creeks of the Colorado River Basin. Before the neighborhood was established, the area was part of a 13,000-acre ranch owned by Jack Josey, a well-known Austin oilman. The subdivision is just off of Ranch Road 620 between Lakeway and Mansfield Dam.

The subdivision offers gorgeous views and a unique charm that’s ideal for those who are seeking a peaceful atmosphere and affordable housing away from the busy downtown area. As the area was developed, a focus was put on maintaining an undisturbed, countryside atmosphere.

Green Park is another of the Westlake area’s exclusive enclaves. This remarkable neighborhood stands out among the other gated communities here due to its matchless charm and character.

Boat Ramps

Walsh Boat Landing is at the lower end of the lake, off Lake Austin Blvd. west of Red Bud Trail. Operated by the City of Austin, it offers a free two-lane concrete ramp and is open year-round.

Loop 360 Boat Ramp is mid-lake, just below Pennybacker (Loop 360) Bridge. It is a three-lane concrete ramp operated by Travis County.

Emma Long Park offers a city-operated, one-lane concrete ramp off FM 2222.

Commons Ford Park, west of Bee Caves Road (FM 2244,) offers a boat ramp and is city-operated.

Mary Quinlan Park has a one-lane, concrete ramp operated by Travis County. It is located behind Steiner Ranch where Quinlan Park Road dead ends into Lake Austin.

About 780 feet above sea level, Mount Bonnell is a popular tourist spot for viewing sunsets, Lake Austin, downtown Austin, and the surrounding hill country. A gentle, staircase-like hike guides visitors to its peak, where viewing spots await.
