Rivercrest Neighborhood in Austin Texas
You know a neighborhood is truly unique when descriptions of recent homes for sale include phrases like “pool with swim-up bar”, “newly installed boat dock” and “master closet was featured in Robb Report Magazine”.
Rivercrest is high-end Austin real estate at its very best. For those who have the means and the desire to purchase or perhaps build a one-of-a-kind dream home on rare waterfront property, you’ll find the opportunity here, in one of Austin’s most exclusive, private and secluded enclaves.
This is a location that can not be duplicated. Even the entry to Rivercrest is dramatic: as you turn off of Bunny Run, the gentle downward slope of Hillbilly Drive takes you deep into a heavily wooded area. The branches of enormous, mature oak trees form a thick, high canopy of lush foliage hanging over the street. This soon gives way to open sky, and suddenly you are thrust onto Rivercrest Drive and its custom-built, luxury residences on the shores of Lake Austin.
Though the first of these generously sized residential lots can be traced back to the early 1960s, Rivercrest has grown slowly and methodically, with each distinctive home arriving with each new upscale buyer over the past forty years. It has also been common for these homes to be sold and then torn down and remodeled to the tastes of new owners.
No two homes here are alike. Styles range from a majestic Mediterranean to ultra-modern contemporary, from a multi-tiered “treetop” structure to a sprawling 9,000 square foot mansion. Customized designs and features abound: fully finished covered patios, tiled balconies, oversized stone fireplaces, pools, home theatres, state of the art kitchens and separate guest quarters.
Interiors are lavishly appointed, with ample use of out of the ordinary materials (exotic woods, granite, travertine). This is why the standard “comparable properties” or price-per-square-foot analyses are best left by the wayside here – each structure is far too unique and should be evaluated on its own.
Rivercrest Drive runs parallel to the waterway and dead-ends to a wooded area with a large dock for all the neighborhood boats. Most of the homes sit on Rivercrest, either on waterfront lots, or on interior lots across the street. A handful of streets clearly named in keeping with a common theme (Pixie Cove, Elfland Drive, Troll Haven) feed off of Rivercrest and end in cul-de-sacs, with those homes sitting among gorgeous tall oak trees, backyards backing to the water.
Rivercrest is secluded enough as to be far away from any commercial development, but close enough to Loop 360 and 2222 to get you to shopping and conveniences. It’s a short drive to Davenport Village or the Arboretum.
Of course the other major draw here is the Eanes Independent School District, long regarded as one of the better school systems in the state. Few districts can match its record of high achievement and superior educational quality. With 37 percent of teachers holding advanced degrees, this is a district where many students will go on to some of the nation’s most competitive colleges.
Eanes ISD can boast of a rare accomplishment: every single one of its schools in 2009 were given the Texas Education Agency’s highest rating of “Exemplary"*.
Also close by is Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School, a private, college prep boarding school located on a stunningly beautiful campus on Bunny Run. Like Eanes ISD, Saint Stephen’s has a record of also sending its graduates to the top colleges and universities in the nation.
*In addition to completion and drop out rates, the Texas Education Agency rates area schools in part based on results from the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills Tests. When the standard student score is 65% or above (45% or above in Math and Science) they gain Academically Acceptable status, 70-75% or above Recognized status, and 90% or above, Exemplary status
